Mind Shift {Trust me}
“Self-trust is the first secret to success.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
It's a familiar theme - as the poet says, to conquer the world, a man must first conquer himself. It's not uncommon for me to talk with people that are afraid of setting goals because the thought of failure the second or third time around is just not worth the risk. Instead, they simply lower
their standards. (If you keep your standards low enough, you'll never be disappointed.) (Of course you'll be trading the promise of a full life for more of what you have now.)
True trust is true self confidence. It makes a major impact on your thinking and the actions you take or don't take, like staying the course when adversity strikes. Below are a few questions to help you assess your trust level:
-- What would you do if you couldn't fail? Is it what you're doing now? (A simple question that can point you in the direction of your true purpose)
-- Do I trust myself to do the right thing, whatever I perceive it to be at the moment? (All you can do is to do your best given the data you have in the present. 20 / 20 hindsight may help you learn from a situation but shouldn't be used to lay blame.)
-- What would it take to reestablish trust with you? (You spend an awful lot of time with you -- it's a long ride when you travel with someone you don't trust. Get help -- be they a friend or a professional)
